Canada Directive on Automated Decision-Making
Federal requirements for assessing and overseeing automated administrative decisions in Canada.
Published by Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat
How to use it
The directive provides a governance framework for federal departments that use automated systems in administrative decision-making. It connects an impact assessment to requirements for transparency, quality assurance, human involvement, and recourse.
During an assessment, document where the system influences a decision, what information it receives, and how a person can understand or challenge an outcome. Use Canada's Algorithmic Impact Assessment as the companion tool for identifying the applicable impact level.
